According to NFPA 1006 Standard for Technical Rescue Personnel Professional Qualifications, Rope Rescue Technicians must be able to build a “rope rescue system intended to move a suspended load along a horizontal path to avoid an obstacle.” What it does not say is exactly how you must be able to rig along a horizontal path. This course will instruct several horizontal rope rescue systems, allowing the students to accomplish specific NFPA 1006 Rope Rescue Technician level competencies. Students will work in small groups to build and operate high lines, reeving systems, dynamic two-rope offsets, and double skate blocks. Students will analyze the various systems for their pros and cons and practicality in the real world. They will also utilize load cell indicators to gain a more advanced understanding of critical angles and forces that are applied to rope rescue systems when rigging horizontally.
